The Orvis Company has celebrated a sportsmen tradition since 1856 with its line of fly-fishing equipment, shotguns and apparel. To continue the strong development of this tradition, Bread Loaf conducted a best-use analysis of the Manchester, Vermont retail, office and manufacturing facility. Analysis of the Manchester facility resulted in a site-selection study to relocate the Orvis corporate headquarters to a new setting.

Situated on a densely wooded hillside, the new building features a stone-pillared front entrance, an open atrium core, and an indoor fitness center. The building brings the outdoors in with its spectacular views of the Taconic Mountains, while in the foreground an outdoor trout pond conveys the Orvis fly-fishing heritage.
