Okemo Mountain Resort

The Ice House – Skating and Tennis Center

Summary

Bread Loaf used its Integrated Project ManagementSM (IPM) system to plan, design and build the new ice arena at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont. The Multi-function Recreation Facility takes full advantage of the state’s four seasons. When the ice melts, the community enjoys playing tennis matches and basketball games and walking and running on the track.

The design challenge was to create an athletic center that would respond to its highly visible site at the Okemo-Jackson Gore Resort while working within the constraints of a conservative budget. Bread Loaf architects provided a barn-like image to the open-air structure. The attached Amenity Building features a warming room with fireplace, ticket and rental spaces, rest rooms and storage for the arena’s Zamboni.
