UVM Celebrates the Opening of the Historic Alumni House & the Jack and Shirley Silver Pavilion
Burlington, Vermont —A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held this fall to celebrate the opening of the restored Alumni House and the Jack and Shirley Silver Pavilion at 61 Summit Street. Bread Loaf Corporation provided Integrated Project Management services for the design, restoration, and construction of the building, working with the UVM alumni foundation and UVM Planning and Facilities to create a new home for the Alumni Foundation to work and hold events.
The 18,000 sf House is a three-story, historic mansion that was originally built for Edward Wells in 1892. The building was owned and operated by Delta Psi Fraternity from 1924 until 2003 and was purchased by UVM in 2007. Phase 1 of the exterior restoration was completed in 2012. The final phase, which included the interior restoration and renovation of the 1892 House, the construction of the new Jack and Shirley Silver Pavilion building and connector to the house, and the final landscaping and site work, was completed this year.
The restored Wells Mansion houses Alumni Foundation offices on the upper floors, call center in the basement, pub in the restored second floor tower room and former Mrs. Wells bedroom. The new pavilion building will serve as a gathering and event space, with future availability as a rental hall for weddings and other events for up to 220 guests. The building is now energy efficient, code compliant and on its way to being LEED certified.
