Center for the Arts at Walker Farm Ground Break
Weston, Vermont—A Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on August 7th for the new Center for the Arts at the Walker Farm, located at 719 Main Street. Weston Playhouses’ goal is to create a nationally recognized Incubator for the Theatre Arts; a place where playwrights, directors, composers, and librettists will come to work on their new works in the quiet rural environment away from the distractions of the city.
Friends and neighbors gathered to hear remarks from WPTC Directors, Board Members, Honorary Campaign Chair Christopher Lloyd, and Representative Oliver Olsen. Weston’s Young Company brought the crowd to tears with a rendition of “Our Time” before the first shovel was sunk.
When construction is completed, the new Center for the Arts will feature an open light-filled lobby, generous public amenities, a flexible contemporary studio theatre that is fully reconfigurable to accommodate an audience of up to 150 people, production office, dressing rooms, green room, wardrobe, laundry and other back-of-house support spaces. The new building is planned to encourage development of future courtyards and garden spaces between the new building and the historic barns, silos and farmhouse. Site improvements support both the new Center for the Arts building and the existing Walker Farm buildings.
Bread Loaf Corporation provided Integrated Project Management services to plan, design and permit the project. With final design, permitting and construction documents complete, Bread Loaf will construct the new building and associated site improvements commencing in August 2016 for scheduled completion in September 2017.
