This is one of the first Net Zero Ready municipal buildings in the country, and was a participant in Efficiency Vermont’s Net Zero Pilot Program. The energy efficient properties include a highly efficient exterior envelope (R20 Foundations, R40 Walls, R60 Roof, R5.5 windows), solar shading, and air source heat pump system using no fossil fuels.

The building is a new, iconic town hall that is modern but reflects the nineteenth century architectural context of Middlebury’s historic village. It also completes the framing of the Village Circle, marks the primary entrance to the downtown from the west, and provides attractive, day-lit spaces including Public Lobby, Public Meeting Rooms and Municipal Offices.
